on my 25th b-day (yesterday), i licensed my 25,000th image on istock. its a pretty big accomplishment i'd say and i'm pretty stoked about it. now i'm considered a "diamond" level contributor, getting the highest percentage from istock (a 5% raise from my last rung on the ladder).

so today in portland the weather is expected to hit 94.... that's pretty warm. basically if i were to stay home and work in our apartment all day i'd end up like a baked potato by 6pm. yeah right!

so i packed up the mac book pro and we headed out to the beach. canon beach right now is a calm 66 degrees and i'm wrapping up some emails and phone calls at bella esspresso. later on i'm planning on heading over to seaside and fall asleep on the beach for a little while. oh yeah, don pedro's is penciled in too.

so tired!! i've been shooting just about none stop for the last couple weeks! definitely taking advantage of this great weather, but i'm excited to slow down a bit this weekend. yes, i'll be up in seattle shooting, but it will be brief and i beleive this weekend will involve kayaking, fishing, video games, and family.

things are well! i think yesterday was around 100 degrees down here in portland. i went to salem for a shoot in the afternoon - shooting kids for stock along a little creek. pretty fun and a good way to keep cool! tomorrow is national slurpee day, 7/11 as well as iphone day! what a combo, i'm stoked.

here's a little update for what our main room is beginning to look like. really utilizes space quite a bit.

we started rearrainging now that jacqi is working from home as well. we just got her "task chair" today (it was finally delivered!). with it we ordered a couple eames eiffle tower chairs that we're pretty stoked on. between the herman miller stuff, a few trips to ikea and a few mirrors and things we've picked up around portland it's really coming together. click on the picture for more details.

i love summer weather! i think every year around this time i post on this same topic... this weather makes me feel so good. and i love being able to shoot outside every day. and bike everywhere! for me it's one pair of shorts for the next 3 months and that's it (well, a t-shirt too, but i rotate those daily). awesome.

i've been shooting some cool people lately. i guess that's why i don't post to this blog ever any more. i twitter and try to post twice a week to the gbp blog. anyways, i just photographed wade and hannah from the belmont foundation. they're cool people and i'm pretty stoked on what they're doing with the belmont foundation.

anyways, don't have much to share right now, i guess twitter is taking the place of this blog... not sure if that's good or bad. i've thought about just closing this one down, but i won't be too hasty.

another friend of mine who's down in LA working for TOMS shoes. TOMS gives shoes to people who need them. had the chance to get together with her and shoot some lifestyle photos of her on a sweet yacht in Marina Del Mar. i think i'd like to get a pair of TOMS.

this is my lunch at ken's artisan bakery/cafe. ken's makes this neighborhood a better place. i email some of the photos i take of his restaurants food. he usually doesn't say much, but it's fun to email him nonetheless.

here's brian. he's a nurse up in canada. he could be a part-time model. (ok, that's a joke from the flight of the conchords. love those guys)

march is flying by! jacqi and i enjoyed a visit from my parents earlier this month. they came down for the weekend and we showed them some of our favorite places down here. pix patisserie was probably one of the best, our favorite place for dessert. we had already taken them to papa haydn's last time they were here (which is another favorite of ours, and more convenient for us). some other places included checking out the pittock mansion, getting some rose tea at the rose garden, driving through the farmland/ plains outside of portland, a topless cruise in their saab up to the vista house in the gorge, and having dinner with jacqi's parents. here are some pics from their visit.

my friend dan from canada came down to portland to some business for his company, but during his down town we had a bunch of fun over the last couple of weeks. the first time he came down he had a mustache, so naturally we did a little photoshoot to really exemplorate in how funny mustaches look. (is exemplorate a word? i remember one of my professors use it, so i'll keep it). anyways, you can see some of the pictures of dan here.

last weekend dan, jacqi and i went down to freddie's place to see them and meet freddie & erika's new baby son, wyatt mclain.

i went to ignite portland a couple of days ago. i especially enjoyed "where does imagination go" and "time for portland to take its place", also "politics as theatre" was pretty good. someday i should write about it... though i doubt that'll happen. something that actually might happen... i'm starting to think that maybe i should present something at the next ignite....we'll see about that.

the other day Jacqi and I went down to the Mission Theater to watch Dan in Real Life. now that's a really nice combination... wife, mission theater, & romantic comedy. there were some other factors involved that are important to mention as well. the mission is this old church that one day turned into a union hall, and later on a theater. its a very neat / ornate building that if you ever come visit us in portland, we'll try to work in a matinee there. such a cool place to see a movie, and they serve delicious food (it's a McMenamins). secondly, sondre lerche did the whole soundtrack to the movie. while the movie had a charming plot and michael scott from the office, the soundtrack totally completed the movie for me. you know what its like to sit down and listen to a new cd that instantly becomes your favorite? well combine that with a dungeon burger (swiss cheese and mushrooms), your wife, and a funny romantic movie and you have yourself a very nice night.

i don't know if anyone remembers the "vacu-suck" from waynes world - i sure do. i've been wanting one for a good few years now... and especially lately. jacqi doesn't like it when i trim my hair because it the stubble looks like "little bugs" in the sink. and the one thing i don't like about cutting my hair myself is having to clean up after a hair cut. so this invention would solve all of my problems! i just am not sure it works well (as far as hair cut style). but i guess its really just a different tool, and might take a bit of practice to master. like chopsticks.

anyways, i guess if anyone has any experience with this "flowbee", let me know. i am actually really interested in getting one some day.

anyways, i'm back in portland. this weekend was nuts! shooting shooting shooting - and in november of all months. it was fun hanging out with gabe, ashley & baron so much in bellingham - though i'm very glad to be home and with my beautiful wife! i'm really starting to love portland as well. weird huh. i'm still quite partial to seattle and i really enjoyed spending a couple of days there over the weekend. there's a new coffee shop in greenwood (neptune coffee), the matador's chili & nachos are still as tasty as ever, and verite coffee & cupcake royale are still indeed delicious.

this week i'll be processing at least some of the photos from the weekend before taking some time to enjoy turkey and family. i'll post some to the gbp blog soon! also, gabe and i are going to be implementing some fun new products & services for 2008 - i've been enjoying taking some time to research all that. maybe i'll write about that soon as well.

its november. i just put together a handy piece from ikea to raise my monitor a couple of inches. i found a nice as-is desk peice for a few bucks, and picked up some legs for it for ten bucks and voila! ok, it wasn't really my idea. they had them set up in one of their show rooms where you could peice together parts and do the same thing (it isn't a particular item), though i figured out i could find those same scraps in the as-is section.

anyways, not too exciting, but thats whats new. you should really check our their as is section.

the weekend is almost over! jacqi and i enjoyed spending the day yesterday dog/house sitting at her parents place in beaverton. maverick is so fun! they have a comfortable home, we just relaxed and played with mav. today church at the pearl church was good. we're starting to know people there which is very nice. our little dinner crew has been helpful. every monday we invite our friends in the neighborhood over (or somewhere) for dinner. tomorrow is going to be our fall party - which means caramel apple time. jacqi loves those things.

i'm loving my new keyboard

some of you loyal readers might find it strange that i didn't post much about my birthday... as you know... i love birthdays... especially mine. :/

well, first of all, gabe and i shot a wedding up at semiahmoo on saturday the 8th. that was great. though i wanted to get home to portland quickly to meet up with jacqi and enjoy my birthday! i knew she had some plans made, though i didn't know what. so i took off after the wedding got out at around 11pm and started driving...

things were fine until i started getting tired around olympia. fortunately i have experience driving late late at night and knew the remedy... sunflower seeds. it's funny how you can get so sleepy that it doesn't even seem to matter that you're driving a 2500 pound machine and you actually have to pay attention. but when your chewing on sunflower seeds, there's something about them that just keeps you completely awake in order to get a little tiny nut out of a shell with your teeth and tongue. weird. (by the way, my buddy braden taught me that life principal).

so i finally got to portland around the time it was getting light out and surprised jacqi who was cozy asleep in bed. i napped for a few hours before we got up for church. there was a potluck that day so we stuck around for that, but jacqi convinced me that we had to get going. stopping by starbucks on the way, we headed out to mcminnville. that's a ways away from portland. but they have a huge air museum. enormous! large enough to hold the spruce goose. it was really fun checking out the planes and showing jacqi how smart i am about air planes... that's how i felt. we watched the apollo space mission imax movie. that was really cool too. i love 3d.

finally we headed back towards the city, but first we grabbed some cuisine at this quaint restaurant in newberg called the painted lady which was very enjoyable. if you ever happen to be in newberg and would like a fantastic 5 course meal, stop by.

and last but not least... awaiting for me at our apartment was a 20"x30" portfolio carrier for my prints, and a cardboard keyboard! jacqi knew i was really drooling over apple's new bluetooth keyboard, so she promised to get it for me once it shipped. which was yesterday!

... have been transforming our 600 square feet apartment into a toasty autumn bungalow with curtains, candles, gourds and candy. lol, that's a funny word. anyways... we're excited for elaine, nam & juanita to come visit on their way up to seattle. we're hoping to throw some kind of fall party sometime soon!

also, we found out that our friend caitlin (from twu) is going to be moving down to portland. we're always trying to increase our "community". since we didn't know very many people when we moved downtown, we decided we'd try to import them into our "community". our "community" is anybody we like a lot and live within walking distance.

i posted this image to the gbp blog, but it's so fun that i wanted to show it off here too. for a while now i put each month photos into a set on flickr so you can see what i've been up to. so far september's is very entertaining and colorful. check it out here. august was also pretty high quality i'd say. i have so many more photos i'd love to show off, just not enough time. i'm trying to get a few projects out the door and then i'll be posting more showcase stuff online. hopefully sooner than later.

yesterday i picked up a couple of certified copies of our marriage license up in vancouver. today we're hoping to get a new license for jacqi and a new oregon license for me.... for mine alone it'll be 65 bucks! i think jacqi's will be a bit less. though, now anywhere i go... no tax!

so i just walked to the bank, and i brought my marriage certificate so i could deposit some checks made out to jacqi rodriguez (we still haven't changed her name officially yet). anyways, the bank experience went very well, and on my way home i stopped by tj's (trader joes) and picked up some milk, eggs, and balsamic vinegar. the guy at the register asked if i just got married. it was just kinda funny having it with me there in my hand.

today i slept in a bit. i've been swamped processing weddings and some of my commercial work and sending it out the door. thousands of images. as well as booking weddings and new sessions for next year. things are different now that i'm married. i try to work at this kind of stuff while jacqi is at work so when she comes home we can spend the evening together. though i really do work better at night. she does too.

we're hoping that next fall (if we finalize some ideas) she can start grad school and i'll still be doing photography full-time. that'll be too cool if both of us have super flexible schedules.

this weekend i'll be shooting at the garden vineyards just outside of portland (near hillsboro). looking forward to it. then on sunday rob and i (jacqi's dad) are going to hike 5000' in elevation gain to the top of mount defiance, which is the highest peak in the gorge. :S

i don't really have much to say about this website yet, i just wanted to share it with you all. it's called kiva.org. it allows you to lend money to people in different countries who are trying to start businesses. i don't really have time to look into it and see what kind of fees or rates are applied, but it's a mind blowing concept. just the fact that it's available first of all. the world is flat. but also, that's just plain weird. that's about all i have to say at the moment.

howdy, hope ya'll are doing well. as usual, there's much going on and it has been a pretty fun month/summer. first of all, getting married is a great idea. i recommend it. jacqi and i have been having a really fun time celebrating her birthday back in august, and mine last weekend. i'll post some photos of what we did pretty soon and write about it.

though, part of what jacqi did for me was order our new aeron chair from herman. ok.. yes we did already have a celle chair (pronounced "sella"). but this chair is so much more comfy (in my opinion).

today i'm up in marysville, i just finished up shooting a wedding out in the rain up at larkspur farm in mt. vernon. i'll be posting some images to the gbp blog soon.

jacqi and i are getting plugged into a small group at our church in portland. we've been enjoying becoming familiar with the different little restaurants near out home on nw 21st.

please excuse my lack of blogging over the past two months!  as most of
you who read this blog know... i've been traveling quite a bit, i got
married, we were house sitting for a while until we found an apt, we
moved in, i've been shooting weddings every weekend!, and now finally i
have my little home office set up.  so we can both hope to see more
coming out of this blog now that things have equalized a bit. 

it's been quite a busy summer, but jacqi and i have been enjoying it
quite a bit! as i mentioned in my previous post, we LOVE our new
apartment.  we also really love living in nw portland.  we had such a
great time in mexico.  and we've been able to get out the beach a
couple of times, and we're going again in a few weeks.  i'll also be
flying down to california again to shoot.  jacqi's work at herman
miller has really picked up since we've been back from our honeymoon
which is nice to see her really grow there, but of course it adds a bit
of stress here and there.  though she really does balance the work and
her colleagues very well.

howdy.  well, jacqi and i are all moved into our tiny apartment in nw portland. we've had the pleasure of having quite a few of our family members and friends over and we've all had such a great time.

we've really felt so blessed being able to have such nice things to fill our apartment with thanks to the generous gifts from people who attended our wedding (or sent them via mail).

i'm not sure if any of you readers have noticed, but i've been posting little updates to my twitter account quite a bit more regularly than here at yeahboone.blogspot.com. you can find a little twitter reader down and to the left (it's that gray little box w/ words in it). also, gabe and i post here and there at gabrielboone.com/blog. we really love our new website and the blog is probably our most popular feature.

i guess while i'm here i'll write a little. jacqi and i had a stellar time in cozumel! we've been back for a short while now and are moving into a really cute little apt in northwest portland. we love it! business is going quite well and i'm stoked to be back from a weekend of rest and re-energizing... i have a lot of great ideas and things to work on and i can't wait to get started on that this week.

sitting around reading a book and taking time to think while cruising 30,000 feet above the earth. i'm flying to LA to visit my abulita emmy. i'm very blessed.

i started thinking of the different places i'll go this year. california twice, cozumel next week. seaside in july with the family. maybe calgary. seattle, portland, vancouver. life isn't mundane, it's good to relax and enjoy it though. getting married. things are coming together. self employed and about to begin working part-time as a barista. starting a household. teaching others how to take better pictures. life is enjoyable. and i'm well taken care of.

it's fun to think back on the past few years. meeting my wife (ok... almost wife...), being able to go to college, leading mrd and skateclub, making great friends. going to alaska with my cousin and grandpa and catching wild salmon on a fly rod. driving to mexcio with jacqi. starting my own business. meeting great thinkers and speakers like mark driscoll and other people who have really influenced me. studying the bible. studying c.s. lewis and other great authors. living downtown. seeing my nephew and niece grow a few years. enjoying music. spending time with my grandparents. working with both of my brothers.

i have a lot to be thankful for.

I met up with a bunch of local photographers today at a monthly flickr get together. As you can see from this photo, I had a chance to fire off a few rounds of this beauty of a rangefinder (owned by Gary Gumanow). 'Sure was smooth.

It's a fun group. I know some of them from a few years ago when I was living at the Spott's place and I'd go to these things.

i had this really really weird dream two nights ago. here's a little excerpt from my dream.

"there was this corrupt government, and this one guy was bald and a big snob, and he really wanted to be an artist but he wasn't very good at art. anyways, they created this machine that was like a giant xerox machine, that people would actually go into it, and could come out inside of a huge piece of paper that was actually a space ship and could cruise around, kinda like a flying squirrel does, but in space. but it was so scary to do, so they branded it "scary". lol. weird huh."

i also had this weird honeymoon dream a month or two ago. i've been hearing of guys who loose their wedding rings on their honeymoon because i guess they don't have them sized right, and they go swimming in the ocean and lose them while swimming. so in my dream, jacqi was on the beach of cozumel getting some sun, and i wanted to go exploring in the water. so i was cruising around underwater just seeing whats down there. and low and behold, i found some poor fella's ring! it got me pretty stoked just thinking of how many people lose their stuff, and i'm right there, in the jack pot itself! so i starting swimming around searching for loot. and sure enough, i started finding all sorts of jewelry. another ring...a gold necklace, a tennis braclet, oh, another ring.... pretty soon i had my arms full of gold, but that's not enough, on my way back to the beach, dragging all my booty, i come across a lost mac book pro. i was pretty excited to drag that baby up on shore and get to work refurbishing it. all and all it was a pretty good dream.

marysville

i'm in marysville at the moment but not for long. i can't wait to get 'home'. it's weird calling oregon home, and i'm not quite sure i'm ready start, but i sure can't wait to get back there.

i came up to the seattle area last week to host a lighting workshop that i've been helping to plan. if you wanna hear more about that, you can read our photography blog. i had a really good time hanging out with zack arias a bunch of "local" photographers. then i ended up staying in the area because jacqi graduated this weekend (up in bc @ twu). in the mean time, tim i got fitted for our tuxidos, i did a bit of photography work in seattle, and stopped by spu and caught up with friends.

graduation weekend... packed full. jacqi her parents came up. we enjoyed the sun and the worlds best gelato at whiterock, then went to her ceremony. the speakers really pushed the bar higher this year and were enjoyable encouraging to listen to.

as always, i took quite a few photos, i'll post those sooner or later... when i get back down to home base...

portland towers penthouse suite

last week i had the opportunity to shoot this beautiful suite for a window company. this penthouse is in the top floor of the portland towers and has a spectacular view of mt. hood and the willamette river.

mom and dad came down to visit. we feasted at this place called the rheinlander, which we're going to book for the rehearsal dinner. so some of you will be eating there on june 8th. you know who you are, so mark it on your calendars.

i got my hair cut last week. it's probably the best hair cut i've ever had (sorry stan...). my friend from ethnos, brecca, cut my hair. she used these things called thinning shears that really help because my hair is so thick and gets so hot.

i like this shot. ashby is getting her hair cut. she is the founder of this organization called Visible Grace. her goal is to open a school and orphanage in kenya.

i just logged on to the usps website to double check some stuff for the wedding invites and guess what i saw? star wars stamps! i thought, this is great! we haven't bought the stamps for the reply cards yet... only to realize it's just a tease... they debut may 25th. not soon enough! ...i guess i'll have to use up my personal stash of ronald regan stamps so i can pick up some of the new star wars stamps.

color management

i've always wanted to get a really great understanding of color profiles and color management, so the other day i picked up this book called color confidence. before that i knew a handful of tips and facts, but now i really feel like i'm understanding color management. here's a very quick basic example of what i'm reading about.

sRGB has a wider color gamut (amount of colors it can show), which is good for use with output items that have a wider color output such as monitors (web). RGB's gamut it a bit narrower and matches the output of printers a little better (which are more limited in the amount of colors they can produce). check out the images below where i changed the output profiles. the first is RGB and the second is sRGB.

i was up in seattle/marysville/bellingham this weekend. gabe and i had a great time shooting Noelle's wedding! we'll be uploading some images to share sometime soon. mom, jacqi i went to check out tuxedos and had a hilarious time.... you'll have to ask one of them about it. i guess i can give you hint, avoid going to everett if you can. jacqi met with steve and made a bit of progress on the dress, i'm trying to get a little information about it out of her, but she won't tell! i bet it will be gorgeous though and i can't wait to see her in it!

St. Baldrick's!

My good friend Joel just emailed me to let me know he will be shaving

his head tomorrow to help raise money for children with cancer. Joel is

a stand up guy with a goal to raise $400. Also, another friend of ours,

Luke Yoder, will be matching dollar for dollar any funds that are

donated on behalf of Joel. You can see his progress as well as donate

on Joel's St. Baldrick's page.

Update: With Luke's promise to match funds, in just one day Joel has raised $460, 15% more than his goal!

I was actually asked to photograph the St. Baldricks event, which I'm sure would have been fun if I wasn't already booked this weekend. Besides being a great guy, Joel has modeled for me quite a bit for a number of different stock shoots I've done in the Seattle area.

My brother Garrett is giving this Lent idea a shot. Even though we aren't Catholic and never really paid too much attention to giving up something for 40 days, it's exciting to see him use this time re-focus and acheive a few goals. You oughta pay him a visit and check up on him.

He also has this blog value meter that I thought was pretty cool. Especially because my blog is valued almost three times higher than his! Ha. Though Ashley's awesome sweets blog is leaving both of us in the dust hovering somewhere around ~~$2500~~ $17,500.74! and rightly so (~~by the way, I tested it myself!~~ i guess i didn't test it good enough the first time). i went to the sherwood wamu today to drop of a gift for my friend chris... it was his consolation prize of a vanilla latte. he was the one who challenged me to the "race to bronze" on istock. we had a lot of fun, though i managed to upload a couple hot selling images and took the lead to win. it was fun visiting with him.

he was telling me that on his honeymoon, they took a cruise and had a stop at cozumel. they loved it! i'm really excited to get on the plane with jacqi and take off!

all i've been doing is emailing and processing! it's good. i should be caught up by the end of the week and i'll send some stuff off to print.

it's been really nice being able to see my fiancee everyday! i visited her office on monday and we had lunch at a nearby cafe. yesterday sherry got us pizza schmizza for dinner.... hmmm, i love that place. a lot.... i think i like pizza more than the average person. overall i've been having a really nice time down here in portland. i'll try to keep you posted.

and to my portland friends who might be reading this... (terry and angie), i'll be giving you guys a call soon! we'll have to hang out.

update: well it's march and if you were trying to keep up with my by my blog alone, you probably wouldn't know anything about what's going with me.

first, there's the usual typical items that happen most every month nowadays. i spent time with friends, family, and my fiancee (she probably fits in both those category's, but i liked the three f-word thing going on there). i shot two weddings and a handful of other photoshoots. worked my day job at SPU. commuted to work on the bus. didn't sleep much. saved money. things keep looking better and better with istock for me.

and there are a few things that are a little more out on a limb. i finished up my time at SPU. i'll be moving down to Portland. i'll be self-employed shooting people for a living (one of my favorite things to do). i booked a honeymoon to cozumel! the card is a really cool good-bye card my co-workers made for me.

i'm starting to add to my march album - i was able to start it off with an arms length self portrait of myself snowboarding today. my mom and i took advantage of the new snow, and no office job to tie me down, and went snowboarding!

fort casey weekend

jacqi and i were invited to spend the weekend up at fort casey this weekend with joel and his family. janice and kurt (joel's parents) were great hosts and of course we had a great time. janice kept us well feed and warm with hot - coaco and coffee. we enjoyed crab and steak saturday evening. we were going to watch the good, the bad, and the ugly, after dinner, but we ended up talking about politics and the war for a few hours. it was an enjoyable evening. joel and i sometimes get into those conversations at work - he's in the cube to my left.

also, we saw plenty of deer and eagles! here are a couple photos. jacqi especially liked being a "shepherdess" to the deer.
